Lil Wayne’s movie has got (no) money
Lil Wayne’s major acting debut has been on hold due to some financial problems.
Sources close to the production told WooHa.com that the studio which owns the distribution rights to Hurricane Season has run out of money.
Filming for the movie wrapped in mid 2008, and the premiere had been set for early 2009. Now, due to unspecified financial issues at The Weinstein Company, the release has been pushed back indefinitely.
Hurricane Season is based on the true story of post-Katrina high school basketball team that was formed from five different high schools. Wayne plays a young thug named Lamont who bets against his own school.
We hope things work out for the film, which we think would be a certified box office smash. Not only does it have a compelling plot, but it’s packed with star power, too. Isaiah Washington will star as the coach the leads the basketball team to a state championship. Bow Wow also has a feature role in Hurricane Season, playing a guard named Gary. Finally, Forrest Whitaker and Taraji P. Henson play a married couple in the movie.
