Martin’s TV takeover
Martin Lawrence is definitely keeping busy this summer since he’s hard at work developing three new shows.
Martin is trying his hand at animation domination for FOX. According to The Hollywood Reporter, he’s working on a cartoon sitcom based on his life growing up in Washington, D.C. The as-yet untitled show is being written by Rodney Barnes, who is a co-executive producer on “Everybody Hates Chris” and “The Boondocks.”
With two creative minds like that at the helm, we can’t wait to see how the cartoon will turn out. But we still want to know who’s animating it.
Martin is also working on a live-action show for the Starz Network with comedian Gary Owen. The single-camera sitcom, which doesn’t have a working title, will follow the lives of a White man from the trailer park and his well-to-do Black wife.
You might remember Gary from BET’s “Comic View;” he’s the only White comedian to ever host the show. The inspiration for the Starz sitcom comes from Gary’s own life, and he might be starring in the 30-minute comedy.
Both the shows for Fox and Starz have script commitments.
Finally, THR reports that Martin’s got a third show in the works. It’s a family comedy set in a funeral home, but the rights to the show haven’t been snatched by any of the network just yet.
