Family sets memorial plans for Michael Jackson
Updated 7/02/09 4:25 p.m.
Michael Jackson's funeral arrangement have been set.
According to The Hollywood Reporter a service will be held for the fallen pop icon on June 7 at The Staples Center. The funeral is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. PST.
But, Michael’s family is putting a stop to a public memorial for the entertainer that would have been held at Neverland Ranch.
"Contrary to previous news reports, the Jackson family is officially stating that there will be no public or private viewing at Neverland” a rep for the family said in a statement. “Plans are underway regarding a public memorial for Michael Jackson, and we will announce those plans shortly."
According to E! News, the family is now setting it sights on holding the memorial at The Staples Center in Los Angeles on Tuesday. However, that would not include a viewing of Michael’s body.
As they plan for a memorial for the entertainer, the family still has to make arrangements to bury him. E! reports that the Jacksons still haven’t filed a death certificate for Michael, which they need in order to bury him anywhere.
That brings up the question of where the singer will be laid to rest. His father has said that he will not be buried at Neverland, but even if the family wanted to lay him there, they couldn’t. Under California law, bodies must be buried in established cemeteries or they would need a permit to bury him on private property.
