A teen from Inglewood, California, has been honored for her record-making cross-country flight
 

Fifteen-year-old Kimberly Anyadike has become the youngest Black woman ever to fly across the U.S. by herself.

She began her two-week trip on June 29 when she took off from Compton Woodley Airport, where she’s been flying since the age of 12. The young pilot navigated her single-engine Cessna all the way to Newport News, Virginia, making a few stops along the way. Then she flew back to Woodley.
 
Kim said her flight, sponsored by Tomorrow’s Aeronautical Museum, was dedicated to the Tuskegee Airmen in honor of their brave service during World War II. The teen was accompanied by a safety pilot on her cross-country trip along with Levi Thornhill, who served with the Airmen.
