Snoop gets caught up in the rapture
Anita Baker has tapped Snoop Doggy Dogg for a collaboration on her next album.
Anita told Billboard.com that she’s planning to release a Live DVD and possibly an album to go a along with it in 2010. Although she has footage from several concerts she’s done in locales like the Cayman Islands and a Minnesota casino hotel, most of the video project will feature songs from her shows at Radio City Music Hall. She’s also considering footage of her from this year’s Essence Music Festival.
And Anita might also have some new material in mind for her devotees that would update her classic sound.
“It is not a departure. It will be an Anita Baker record, but it will have a lot of surprising elements in it,” she said. “We’ll take a lot of our contemporaries and bring them into my project where they may fit.”
First on her list is Snoop Dogg, who is working with her on a remake of Curtis Mayfield’s “Give Me Your Love (Love Song)” from the soundtrack to Superfly.
“We do it in a very contemporary way, a very grown-up way," Anita explained. "It's lovely -- who knew that Snoop is madly in love with his wife, you know? We've got a chance to see that in the way his music has grown, so when he comes in to do dialogue over that love theme, it becomes very grown-up and contemporary at the same time."
