The results of Caster Semenya’s gender test have come back showing that she’s both a man and a woman.

Results of the test, ordered by the International Association of Athletics Federation, show that Caster has both male and female organs, according to
The Telegraph. Reportedly this is due to a chromosomal abnormality.

This would classify Caster as a hermaphrodite, and that revelation means she might now be stripped of the gold medal she won in Berlin last month in the 800-meter dash. Questions over Caster’s gender were raised almost instantaneously after that victory.

Test results show that she has no uterus or ovaries, but she does posses internal testes, which produce testosterone. It was previously discovered that her levels of the male hormone were three times higher than that of normal women.

While the IAAF has received the gender test results, they haven’t officially confirmed the findings. However, one official did comment on the outcome, which Caster has been informed of.

“It is clear that she is a woman, but maybe now 100 percent. We have to see if she has an advantage from her possibly being between two sexes compared to the others,” said IAAF secretary general Pierre Weiss.
