Shyne to be released from prison today
Former Bad Boy rapper Shyne is going home today.
Shyne will be released from prison today after serving a 10-year sentence in New York. In June of 2001, the rapper, born Jamal Barrow, was found guilty of felony charges as a result of a New York City club shooting in 1999. Diddy and actress Jennifer Lopez were also partying at the scene, but they were not charged with anything.
The rapper was convicted of two counts of assault, reckless endangerment and gun possession. After Shyne's trial, Diddy called the verdict "unfair and extreme," reports Vibe.com.
A couple of weeks ago Diddy spoke to New York radio station Hot 97 about Shyne's impending release.
"It's a blessing that [Shyne's] coming home," he said. "I spoke to him like a couple of weeks ago and he sounded like he was in good spirits. I know he can't wait to get home. I know he is definitely going to heat the whole scene up. He was definitely one of talented young artists that I had the pleasure to work with. I'm quite sure he's been using his time wisely and has some heat."
Shyne has released two albums: 1999's Shyne and 2004's Godfather Buried Alive, which was recorded while he served time and featured a track recorded through a prison song, according to HipHopDX.
