Judge untangles ‘Good Hair’

A federal judge has given Chris Rock’s Good Hair room to grow.

    The
Associated Press reports that the judge ruled against a request from filmmaker Regina Kimball seeking to prevent the wide release of Good Hair.

Regina brought a lawsuit against Chris because she claims that his film exploring Black women’s relationship to their hair was a rip-off of her documentary, My Nappy Roots. According to court documents, she showed Chris her movie back in the 2007.

However, U.S. District Court Judge Dale Fischer screened both Good Hair and My Nappy Roots, and, in her opinion, there weren’t any significant similarities.

Good Hair has been out in limited release, raking in about $1.7 million thus far. Now, with the judge’s stamp of approval, it will hit theaters nationwide this Friday.
