‘Dancing With the Stars’ recap: October 19
Couple: Mya and Dmitry Chaplin
Dance: Argentine Tango
Mya and Dmitry proved that anything is possible last night on “Dancing With the Stars” as the finally got Judge Len Goodman to give them a positive review.
One week, they had to many tricks and the next week there weren’t enough, but they seem to have gotten into the right groove with their latest routine.
“Our Argentine Tango is very intricate and very risky with the lifts and tricks…especially for Dmitry,” said Mya, who also advised her partner to wear a cup during practice.
“Who said the Tango is not dangerous,” Dmitry said.
The pair took a little time out of their hectic, and dangerous, practice schedule to lend a hand with habit. Dmitry suggested that they bring the same aggression they used to hammer nails for a house to the ballroom, and that made the dance pop.
In a word, their Argentine Tango was crisp!
Up until now, Len had been tough to figure out, and once Mya and Dmitry stopped caring what he thought, that’s when he took to them.
“Normally I don’t like too much messing about on the stage, but I think the dance lends itself to a small area,” Len said. “To be honest with you I never really know what I like until I see it, and I’ve got to say, I liked that.”
That wasn’t the only surprise this week because Judge Bruno Tonioli’s critique was tame on Monday. There was no jumping out of his chair and shouting, only an opinion and some advice
“That was intricate like lace. Precise with an air of sophistication,” Bruno said. “There’s just one thing for the future: You always have to keep the emotional connection.”
Judge Carrie Ann Inaba cosigned on that, saying that although she knows Mya and Dmitry wanted to appear distant they couldn’t be appear totally removed.
Mya and Dmitry’s Argentine Tango garnered 27 points, but they were knocked from the top spot by Donni Osmond, who earned a score of 29. To see if that slip in the rankings will send them home, tune in to “Dancing With the Stars: The Results” tonight at 9 p.m. EST on ABC.
