Naomi Campbell sued for scent
Naomi Campbell will be catwalking into court again over allegations that she stiffed a cosmetics marketing company.
The Associated Press reports that Moodform Mission is suing Naomi, claiming that she hasn’t paid them their cut of profits from the fragrances Naomi Campbell, Cat Deluxe and Seductive Elixir.
Naomi signed a deal with Moodform in 1998, which stated that she would regularly pay the Miami-based company part of the profits from the fragrance lines once they hit stores in 2001. Now, the firm claims that it was cut off some time last year.
"The payments stopped coming. I guess she just decided she didn't want to pay any more,” Daniel Bright, a lawyer for Moodform, told the New York Daily News. “She's still making money from these products and so is the company that's selling the stuff. It's my clients who got cut out."
Court documents, filed in Manhattan Supreme Court Monday, state that Naomi is accused of the breach of contract. According to the AP, Moodform claims its agreement with her was broken when she signed new fragrance-licensing contract with a German company.
"[It’s] a fraudulent scheme arranged by [Naomi] for the purpose of avoiding her obligation to pay Moodform Mission," the suit states.
A rep for the supermodel said that Naomi denies the charges leveled against her. "She is confident that the judge and the jury in this case will fully vindicate her," they said in a statement.
There is no word on exactly how much Moodform is seeking in damages, but Daniel said that it’s a “significant” amount.
