Actors, artists join White House committee

President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama are well-documented lovers of the arts, and they are further proving it with their picks for the President's Committee on the Arts and Humanities.

The first couple announced on Monday night that Oscar-winning actor Forest Whitaker, "Sex & the City" star Sarah Jessica Parker, Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour and Teresa Heinz Kerry, wife of Sen. John Kerry, will all be on the newly appointed board.

The Committee has been a part of every administration since 1982 and is always honorarily chaired by the first lady.

“The arts are not just a nice thing to have or to do if there is free time or if one can afford it. Rather paintings and poetry, music ... design and dialogue, they all define who we are as a people and provide an account of our history for the next generation," Michelle wrote on the PCAH's Web site.
