‘Oprah’ show over in 2011
Oprah Winfrey is set to announce that she’ll be ending her show after 25 years on the air.
Today Oprah announced her plans to end “The Oprah Winfrey” on September 9, 2011. As the Queen of Daytime Talk preps to step down from the throne, she’ll be shifting to her focus to OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network, which is set to launch in January 2011, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Among the factors contributing to her decision to end the talk show is that Oprah’s contract with CBS television will be up in 2011. Of course, fully explained her reasons to retire the talk show staple at the end of today's episodes.
Saying 'bye is never easy, and Oprah got a little chocked up during her announcement to viewers.
"My relationship with you (the viewers) is one I hold very dear," she said. "So why walk away and make next season the last? Here is the real reason: I love this show. This show has been my life, and I love it enough to know when to say goodbye."
And don’t expect her to set up a new couch on the OWN, either. While there had been speculation she was moving the show to the new channel, which has yet to set a concrete launch date, sources told EW.com that that is not the case. Oprah will, however, be heavily featured on her self-titled network.
