Alicia Keys to launch jewelry line
Mon, 11/23/2009 - 13:16 — whitney
Add part-time jeweler to Alicia Keys' multi-hyphenated job title. Women's Wear Daily reports that she's launching a line of jewelry along with designer Gisèle Theriault.
The Barber's Daughters will feature original necklaces with inspirational language inscribed onto them. It was named after the small town that Gisele grew up in in Canada. There, “a name meant nothing. Whose child you were was everything.”
“I fell in love with the individuality of the pieces, but more than that, the words that were written on them really resonated with the songwriter in me,” Alicia told WWD. “I knew at that moment, for the first time, that through a whole other medium I would be able to spread inspiration and that’s what got me started.”
Alicia's goal for the project is to “to give people beautiful, unique pieces with messages that ignite them to find the best within. Jewelry is a great first step," she said.
“The inspiration of The Barber’s Daughters is to provide tools for people to connect to their intangible beauty and strength,” said her partner Gisèle.
The intangibles don't come cheap though: The Barber's Daughters sells for $85 to $2,500 at thebarbersdaughters.com.
The line is part of AK Worldwide, which will house all of Alicia's non-music biz projects.
