Destiny’s Child settles song case
Destiny’s Child narrowly avoided an in-court reunion by settling a case with a Chicago singer who claims they ripped them off.
According to the Chicago-Sun Times, the group just settled a case with Rickey Allen. The Chicago performer filed suit against the girls group back in 2004, charging that they stole his song, “Cater 2 U.” Specifically at issue was the title of the song and its spelling, which was copyrighted.
Rickey’s attorney, Matthew Wildermuth, would only confirm that the matter has been settled, but he didn’t divulge any details on the terms of his client’s agreement with Destiny’s Child.
“All of the issues have been amicably resolved and the case is going to be dismissed,” said Matthew. “[Allen is] excited about being able to devote time to posturing his musical career.”
Had they not reached an agreement, the eight-day trial would have made for an uncomfortable reunion for the ladies: Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams would each have been required to show up to court for every day of the case.
