‘Princess’ takes box office throne
Disney’s The Princess and the Frog claimed the crown in theaters this weekend with an impressive jump in ticket sales.
Ranking #1 at the box office, the mouse house’s latest fairy tale brought in $25,000,000 this weekend after hitting theaters nationwide.
According to the numbers at BoxOfficeMojo.com, this marks a huge leap for The Princess and the Frog, which had been open to very limited release before December 11. The animated musical, set in New Orleans during the Jazz Age, clocked in at #16 last week, but that’s not bad considering it was only being showing in two theaters.
Coming in at #2 was football biopic The Blindside, following the inspirational story of Baltimore Ravens player Michael Oher. The movie earned more than $15,000,000 this weekend. Meanwhile, Invictus, starring Morgan Freeman as Nelson Mandela, debuted at #3. Overall, this was pretty good weekend for Black movies.
