A new transplant treatment is curing patients of sickle cell anemia and offering new hope.

Bone marrow transplants are an effective way to treat some cases of sickle cell anemia, according reports from the New England Journal of Medicine.
 
The study, conducted by the National Institutes of Health and John Hopkins University, tested its stem-cell transplant method on ten adults with the disease. Nine of the patients showed signs of a reversal in the condition.
 
A similar procedure has also been used to cure about 200 children, reports BlackVoices.com.
 
For African Americans and Latinos, sickle cell is far-reaching. About 1 in every 500 Black babies carry the disease while about 1 in every 1,000 to 1,400 Hispanic-American babies do.
