Forest Whitaker is wrapping up a deal to star in a prospective spinoff of the CBS hit series “Criminal Minds."
 
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the as-yet untitled show would first appear as a special episode of “Criminal Minds” set to air in spring. Forest’s role would be the dynamic, charming, fatherly head of a new team of profilers.
 
Forest was an early favorite for the role, and producers have been in negotiations with him for a while. Reportedly they came close to finalizing his position in the cast on Monday night, but Forest is also expected to get producer credits.
