‘Precious’ crew earns Oscar noms
All the Oscar buzz surrounding the cast and crew for Precious has turned into six Academy Award nominations.
With her nomination for Best Actress in a Supporting Role, Mo’Nique could pull an award season hat trick with the Oscars. She’s already won a Screen Actors Guild Award and Golden Globe for her supporting role as Mary.
Newcomer Gabourey Sidibe has won a handful of smaller awards since Precious premiered last year, but she’s been shut out for the big awards so far. However, she’s got another shot at the gold with her Oscar nomination for Best Actress in a Leading Role.
Lee Daniels has also gotten some love from the Academy with his Oscar nod for Direction, making this his first major nomination this award season. He’ll face off against James Cameron, the director of Avatar, in that category.
Precious and Avatar will go head-to-head for Best Picture too, but they face stiff competition for that Oscar because The Blind Side and District 9 have been nominated as well. On the more technical side, Precious is also up for the Academy Award for Writing and Film Editing.
Of course we’ll also be rooting for Morgan Freeman come Oscar night. His turn as Nelson Mandela in Invictus earned him a nomination for Best Actor in a Leading Role. And we can’t wait to see if Disney’s The Princess and the Frog wins the Oscar for Animated Feature Film.
To find out who takes Oscar home, tune into the 82nd Annual Academy Awards on March 7.
