Hidden Beach has filed suit against Jill Scott for jumping ship, but she’s not letting them have the last word.
 
Billboard.com reports that the label is suing Jill for breach of contract and damages after she left the label in October. The suit, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court on February 3, argues that Hidden Beach and it founder built Jill up into a Grammy-wining artist over the course of her 10 years with the label.

 
"Hidden Beach is shocked by her decision not only because Scott has apparently chosen to leave the Hidden Beach family," the suit states, "but also because Scott is contractually required to deliver three more albums to Hidden Beach."
 
Jill’s legal team released a statement today arguing that the complaint has “no legal merit and misrepresents Ms. Scott’s relationship with the label.”

 
The release goes on to state, “Jill Scott has the legal right to terminate her recording contract with Hidden Beach Recordings under California’s 7-year rule, where she had been a recording artist for more than 10 years.”
