A Broadway-bound play is attempting to re-create Martin Luther King Jr’s final night alive.
 
Penned by British playwright Katori Hall, The Mountaintop speculates what could have happened the night before the civil rights leader was assassinated in Memphis. It’s already had a successful run in London; according to AccessAtlanta.com, the play is slated to debut on The Great White Way in fall.

 
At curtain up, the play is set on April 3, 1968, in Martin’s room at the Lorraine Hotel.  According to a review by Variety.com, though, this is not a one-man show as an enigmatic Black maid named Camae is quickly introduced into the plot.
 
While The Mountaintop centers on a solemn subject, Katori deftly uses humor to add more dimension to the story. But, reportedly, Camae has a secret that will knock the audience for a loop.

 
No set cast list has been announced for the Broadway run, but there’s word that show producers have tapped Kenny Leon to direct the show.
