Russell Simmons is getting ready to bring the funny again with a new series for Comedy Central.

 
The network announced it has ordered six episodes of an urban stand-up comedy series, which will feature up-and-coming comedians from diverse backgrounds. Basically, think “Def Comedy Jam,” but cleaned up for network TV.

 
"’Def Comedy Jam; made a significant contribution to American pop culture by introducing so many superstars,” said Russell of his flagship comedy show that launched the careers of funnymen such as Dave Chappelle, Martin Lawrence and Bernie Mac. “Now, with Comedy Central as our new partner, we're poised to present the next generation of star talent."


 
The new show, produced by Russell and Stan Lathan, will be hosted by comedian JB Smoove. 


 
"We've been trying to get into business with Russell and Stan for a while now and this new stand-up series is an exciting first venture for us to partner with them," Elizabeth Porter of Comedy Central said.
