Michelle Obama announces dance series
Michelle Obama has invited dancers from the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater to the White House.
The performers will kick off a series celebrating American dance on September 7 as part of an event honoring the theater’s artistic director Judith Jameson. The show, starting at 5 p.m. in White House’s East Room, will feature a number of styles, including ballet, contemporary and hip-hop.
Also showing Judith some love during the event will be performers from the Paul Taylor Dance Company, The Washington Ballet, The New York City Ballet and Super Cr3w from MTV’s “America’s Best Dance Crew.”
The tribute to Judith is well-deserved as she has been Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater’s artistic director for the past 20 years. She was the inspiration for Alvin’s renowned solo Cry.
