The Miss Black America pageant is making a much-needed comeback to set a good example for women of color.

 
Miss Black America has given itself a makeover for the new millennium, and after a 15-year hiatus the organization is ready to crown a new queen. The pageant’s executive producer, Aleta Anderson, announced that the pageant is now seeking contestants for its 2011 competition. 


 
The last pageant was held back in the ’90s and Aleta feels the competition needs to make its big comeback. “I don’t think there was less of a need from 1995 until now, but there is certainly an exaggerated need now,” she said.

 
She added, “We are concerned with replacing negative images with positive images. We want to expose the contestants to a variety of environments that are available to them.”
