Mayhem in Manhattan for ‘Top Model’ casting
Being pretty got really ugly in New York on Saturday.
The New York Daily News reports that six people were injured in a riot outside the Park Central Hotel in midtown Manhattan. The hotel was the site of an open call for Cycle 13 of the CW’s hit series, “America’s Next Top Model.”
Reportedly, the whole thing was a mess from start to finish: Bunches of “Top Model” hopefuls slept outside the hotel Friday night. However, contestants who came the next morning morning just began cutting in line. Then, police told the ladies they couldn’t leave the line and get their spot back.
"I had to pee in a cup and change my clothes in the street,"18-year old Mona Knight told the Daily News. "There was no organization whatsoever."
To make matters worse, the New York Police Department put up metal barriers to contain the crowd of catwalkers. Witnesses say conditions became so cramped that a handful of women fainted after getting crushed against the wall.
Tons of panicked pretties stampeded for escape when an overheated car incited some people to start yelling, “There a bomb!”
"The metal barricade fell down," said Kiara McCarthy. "All of a sudden we heard this roar from behind us and we looked behind us and there's a wave of people falling on top of us."
The casting was promptly shut down after the stampede, and no more women were allowed to audition that day.
According to the Daily News, Clem Clemmons, Vanessa Quiones and Michael Edwards were all arrested for inciting a riot.
We wonder if Tyra Banks & Co. will mention this next season.
