VH1 goes behind Lil' Wayne's music
VH1's getting all up in Lil' Wayne's business.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the venerable TV station is returning their cult classic "Behind the Music" to the airwaves with premiere episodes featuring Lil' Wayne and Scott Weiland. Other artists are currently negotiating agreements to appear on the show.
The website reports that the station has ordered about 10 episodes of the show, which last aired in 2006.
"It felt like the time is right," Jeff Olde, VH1's executive vice-president of original programming told THR. "There's all sorts of new artists on the scene who have emerged and have these great stories. And there's other artists that we always wanted to do the first time around."
"Behind the Music" began in 1997 and was well-received for its "True Hollywood Story"-style of storytelling. A typical "BTM" detailed the artists' rise to fame and the scandals that rocked their career before and after fame set in. Aaliyah, Mary J. Blige, MC Hammer and Queen Latifah were all honored with episodes of this show.
The new version won't change its iconic format much: current footage (perhaps in the form of live concerts) will be added and Jim Forbes (who narrated most of the previous episodes) will reprise his role.
"I'm leery about changing certain elements," Jeff said. "I think the audience will be mad if we mess with it too much."
