Kanye West, Big Boi step up to the plate

Snoop Dogg, Yung Joc and Macy Gray are just a few artists celebrating the Negro Leagues with a compilation CD called True to the Game, Volume 1.

The first single, “The Big Screen,” feature Kanye West and GLC, is a smooth hip-hop song that’s tailor-made for an evening drive.

However, Snoop’s “The Bigg League,” featuring the Hustle Boyz, is probably the truest tribute track on the disc. The song praises the contributions of Black players like Leroy “Satchel” Paige. Hank Aaron and Jackie Robinson are also mentioned on the track.

True to the Game, produced by independent label Stadium Entertainment, boasts a decent mix of styles: You’ll hear anything, from club bangers to slow songs. T-Pain, Ray J, Ludacris and Big Boi pop on the album too.

Proceeds from the album, released by EMI, will go to help the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum in Kansas City, Missouri.

True to the Game is available at Amazon.com.
