Kirk Franklin, Mary Mary take flight at Dove awards
The 40th Annual Gospel Music Association Dove Awards, a celebration of both Christian and Gospel music, went down on Thursday, April 23 at the Opry Entertainment Complex in Nashville.
Among the winners were Kirk Franklin, who took home Urban Album of the Year for his LP The Fight of My Life.
Mary Mary also won one of the coveted awards, picking up the Urban Recorded Song honor for "Get Up." The duo took the stage that night to perform as well.
Other standouts included the award for Traditional Gospel Recorded Song, which was given to The Blind Boys of Alabama for "Free at Last;" they also won the Traditional Gospel Album award.
