Chaka Khan gets jazzy in the capital

Chaka Khan will be taking over for Natalie Cole at the Capital Jazz Fest next month.

When Natalie Cole had to back out of her gig in order to recover from a kidney transplant, Fest organizers knew they had to bring in someone amazing to take her spot.

The Capital Jazz Fest runs from June 5 to June 7 at the Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland. There will be two stages set up for the event.

Chaka will be kicking things off when she takes the Pavilion Jazz Stage on Friday, June 5. She’ll be doing some of her greatest hits (we can already hear “Feel For You” and “Through The Fire”), but she’ll also be hitting the crowd with material from her latest CD, Funk This.

Of course the Soul Stage at Symphony Woods will also feature some major talent too. Raheem DeVaughn will be putting it down on June 6.  Maysa, Caron Wheeler of Soul II Soul and N’Dea Davenport of the Brand New Heavies will be teaming up to perform as the Underground Divas.

You’ll definitely want to be at the Soul Stage for Sunday, June 7, when En Vogue and Angie Stone are set to perform.
