After a year of planning, the National Poetry Awards (www.nationalpoetryawards.org) were held in Raleigh, North Carolina on August 21, 2010 at the Progress Energy Center. With 20 categories of poetic designations and 78 nominees, Michigan resident Rosemarie Wilson was nominated by her peers as Underground Poet of the Year, New & Upcoming Poet of the Year and Poetry Author of the Year. Rosemarie received two of three awards for which she was nominated—New & Upcoming Poet of the Year and Poetry Author of the Year. “Having received three NPA nominations was flattery in itself. One award would’ve brightened my day and I am humbled to receive two of three! Receipt of these awards are testament to the confidence in my poetic endeavors of those who voted.” The 2011 National Poetry Awards will be held in Dallas, Texas.

Brief Bio
Rosemarie Wilson was raised in Detroit, Michigan’s east side. The youngest child with four brothers, she became involved in the community at a young age. As a Girl Scout from kindergarten through high school, she learned valuable lessons by helping others. Raised in the Baptist church and educated in the Detroit Public School system, Rosemarie graduated from Cass Technical High School and spent two years at West Virginia State College. Upon returning to Detroit, Rosemarie obtained her bachelor’s degree from Davenport University (formerly Detroit College of Business). In 2005, as a staunch advocate of fidelity, Rosemarie’s conscience was awakened with her induction into the literary world as the editor of “Saved, Single and Satisfied” written by Shaunda R. Hill. Since that time, Rosemarie has been active as a guest on the Write the Vision “Raisin’ the Praiz” radio show on Detroit’s WHPR FM, 88.1. Her poetry has also been featured in the Soul S.I.S.T.A.H.S. Café of Reading and Poetry (www.thesistahsministry.com/soulsistahscafe.htm), the Key of Gee newsletter (www.keyofgee.com), Black Pearls espot, Taking the Journey web forum on African American relationships (www.takingthejourney.com) and the former Jolie-Magazine.com.

One Single Rose . . . Poetry Blossomed from a Rose Core Bio
One Single Rose . . . Poetry Blossomed from a Rose Core is the first collection of poetry written by Rosemarie Wilson regarding living, learning and loving yourself, kissing a few frogs before meeting your prince or princess, the joys and pains of living life and the dating game. Born in 2005 after experiencing yet another heart ache, One Single Rose developed from within a woman scorned with Rosemarie’s first poem entitled "Travel and Labor." While writing more poems in that vein, Rosemarie was able to let go of the past by self motivating so that she could perhaps motivate others revealing One Single Rose’s three vital sections—Learning, Living and Loving. Pre-released motivational poems "Can't = Won't,” ”Love You!” and “Don't Let Anything or Anyone Steal Your Joy” come from three very important lessons the author learned as a child:
1. If you say you can’t, you won’t!
2. Love comes from within and spreads to others--love you, no matter what! Big, tall, short or small, love you!
3. If you allow others steal your joy, they’ll control your life. Go where you want, be whom you choose!

“The goal when I began the journey of One Single Rose was to reach at least one person with my writings. In 2008, prior to One Single Rose’s release, I authored a MySpace blog in response to a troubled teenager who was sexually abused. Somehow a teen from Montana who had contemplated suicide read the blog and advised that I helped her make it through a tough time. If One Single Rose touched no one when it was released almost a year later, my goal had already been fulfilled! Each of us holds keys to unlock our destinies. We are all winners! Embrace positivity and let negativity push you forward to greatness.”

On October 30, 2010, Rosemarie is scheduled to participate as a panel member at the 2010 Author’s Showcase at the Carter G. Woodson Library in Chicago, Illinois and the next day she will perform at Spirit Led Production’s Gospel Night of Song and Comedy at the International Institute, 111 E. Kirby, Detroit, Michigan.
