Memoirs of Genesis Part 1: SISTERHOOD
When I was a little girl I played cowboys with my two brothers, ridding on a broom stick pretending it was a horse. They never wanted to play tea party with me or dress up in my mother's clothes, high heels and lipstick. I asked my mom for a sister, she told me to pray to God and he will send one from the sky for me. So I prayed every night, and each year that passes, my sister never came from the sky. I thought I was a bad girl, so I completed all my chores, received good grades in school and I was very obedient to my mother who was really my Grandmother I later realized. One day after 7 years my sister was born. I couldn't wait to meet her and comb her hair and play tea parties. When I met her, she was so tiny and too fragile to play. So I spent my child hood with two brothers that knocked my Barbie dolls to the ground and learned to fight back by burning their G.I. Joes, they cried and I tormented them if they told mom. I became the biggest prankster, quickly learned that I was a loner. My gift of a sister grew up praying for a sister of her own because I would go off into my own little world, sitting at my window pane, drawing the birds perched on a branch and writing about the Vanilla moon and red lace begonias. Seven years later her wish came true, my sister whom I've prayed for got her prayers answered with her own tiny baby sister. Years went by, we all eventually became the same size by nature. We played, danced, laughed and loved one another so much, we thanked God knowing that he granted us a gift of SISTERHOOD. -by Maria C. Guirand 6/12/10
