Foreclosure for Fantasia?!
It looks like Fantasia Barrino is the latest victim of the housing market meltdown. The New York Post reports that her home in Charlotte, North Carolina, is going up for bid in order to pay off a loan.
According to TheUrbanDaily.com, Fantasia got in deep when Broward Energy Management loaned her $68,000 to pay off back-taxes she owed to the IRS. Although she paid back part of that loan, court documents show she still owes Broward $58,000—and a judge ruled that they could take the house for compensation!
Now, Fantasia’s $1.3 million mansion in Charlotte, which she just got last year, has been for foreclosed on and it’s going up for auction on January 12.
Records show that Fantasia took on a $1 million mortgage for the property from Bank of America. Broward’s lawyer told the Post that because Fantasia didn’t answer the complaint filed against her, a judge ruled in their favor by default.
But according to one relative who lives at the house, this is all a big misunderstanding. She told the Post that Fantasia’s former lawyer is at fault for the mess because he didn’t go to court to challenge the judgment.
One thing’s for sure, whoever gets the “American Idol” winner’s home will be living in the lap of luxury: Fantasia’s palacial two-story abode is located in one of Charlotte’s most elite neighborhoods and sits on a golf course.
Fantasia does not want to comment on the situation at this time.
