Madea locks up top spot at the box office
Tyler Perry has the #1 spot at the box office on lock with Madea Goes To Jail, which debuted last weekend.
After hitting over 2,000 theaters, Madea Goes to Jail grossed more than $41.1 million. That’s more than three times what #2, Taken, made last weekend.
The film, starring Keshia Knight-Pulliam, Derek Luke and, of course, Tyler Perry picks up where Meet The Browns left off: with a car chase. After getting caught, Madea is sentenced to hard time in prison.
While there, Madea meets Candace Washington (played by Keshia), a prostitute and former drug addict, and takes the girl under her wing. Candace landed in jail after an old friend refused to take her case.
Madea Goes to Jail (based off of Tyler ‘s play by the same name) also stars RonReaco Lee who we caught up with for Meow. Pick up the March 2009 issue of Sister 2 Sister magazine to see what being on the set taught him.
BTW, Madea Goes to Jail has also had the best opening of any Lionsgate film.
