Martin Lawrence coming back to America
Martin Lawrence wants to add a little extra to Coming to America, a movie that’s near and dear to all our hearts (you know you watch it every time it comes on).
Empire Online reports that Martin is already producing Back To America; he’s also hoping to star in the film, which as of press time has no script or director.
Back to America is (or would be) about a working-class dude from Queens who discovers he’s got some royal ties to Africa, so he goes back to the Motherland to claim his birthright and a bride.
With a premise like that, Back to America isn’t so much a remake as it is a kinda-sorta sequel. Coming to America followed Prince Akeem of Zamunda (played by Eddie Murphy) on his quest for a queen in Queens. In that movie the prince was trying to hide the fact that he was a prince.
Although Martin came up with the pitch for the movie, it’s little more than a concept at this point.
