Angela Bassett to direct film

Now that NBC’s “ER” is coming to an end, Angela Bassett is moving to the other side of the camera.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Angela will be directing an indie film titled United States.  It’s a dramatic comedy about an author, Monk Ellison, who writes a fake autobiography as an almost illiterate thug.  When the book, which was meant to lampoon “ghetto” culture, becomes a contender for the National Book Award, he’s got to choose between pride and fame.

Dwayne Johnson-Cochran wrote the script, which is based on the novel Erasure.  Filming is slated to start sometime this summer.

Angela and her husband, Courtney B. Vance, will also be producing United States.  The couple has no problem working together since they both star in “ER.”
