Sound Check: Boyz II Men celebrates 20 years of musical success

We can’t believe it’s been two decades since Shawn, Wanya, Nathan and Michael (who left the group in 2003 because of health issues) came bouncing onto the scene, clad in tucked-in jean shirts, collegiate cardigans, neon baseball caps, flipped-up Gazelles sunglasses and loud bow ties—a mash-up of early ‘90s styles—that can best be described in one now-classic word: Motownphilly.
Come this fall, the trio (although it’s possible Michael’s signature bass voice will grace this album) is looking forward to melting hearts once again. While we’ll hear some familiar sounds, Shawn said, “[our] perspective has changed as we have gotten older.” But they’ll stick to singing about love and relationships—a surefire signature for Boyz II Men.
