Clarice Taylor, better known as Grandma Huxtable, has passed away at the age of 93.

Clarice Taylor died of heart failure on Monday at her home in Englewood, New Jersey.

Born September 20, 1917, Clarice paved the way for many Black actors during a time when there were very few opportunities.

With numerous roles onstage, onscreen and on radio, Clarice's illustrious acting career spanned five decades. She even earned an Emmy Award nomination in 1986 for her recurring role as Anna Huxtable on "The Cosby Show."

Those who grew up on  "Sesame Street" in the 1960s will also remember her as David's grandmother, Harriet. The role is credited as her big break.  

Clarice was also a member of the Negro Ensemble Company in New York, and she starred as Addaperle, the Good Witch of the North, in the Broadway production of The Wiz. She won an Obie Award in 1987 for that role.

Back in 1971, Clarice also got a chance to work with Clint Eastwood, playing a character named Birdie in the movie Play Misty For Me. Of course, no rundown of her career would be complete without mention of her work as Gladys Brooks in the comedy film Five On The Black Hand Side.

The actress was surrounded by friends and family when she passed.
