Karrine Steffans reveals 'Vixen' hoax
Karrine Steffans has confessed that her infamous tell-all, Confessions of a Video Vixen, was nothing but a pack of lies.
The entertainment world knows Karrine as "Superhead," the video vixen who blew the cover off numerous rappers' dirty deeds. Her 2005 tell-all simoultaneously earned her a spot on the New York Times bestseller's list and made her the target of harsh scrutiny in the hip-hop community.
A few months ago, Karrine quietly outed herself as a fraud by writing that she had been doing nothing more than playing a character for the past six years. But since that announcement didn't seem to catch anyone's attention, she took the news viral.
In a recent video posted to the Internet, Karrine is taped at her least glamorous while brushing her teeth in her underwear. The clip starts with her, proclaiming, “I’m an old bird. I’m not 18 anymore. I’m not 20-something anymore. Who the hell wants to be a 45-year-old vixen?"
Casting off her scandalous public persona yet again, Karrine tells viewers that she'd rather be remembered for her intellect than her body or her more salacious exploits. "Sex doesn’t last forever, but what I have up here does. I’m a writer. I write s&!t," she asserted. "The vixen doesn’t exist. You can’t tell people that because they don’t believe that. It was all fabricated."
The author revealed that not even the name of the book that brought into the spotlight was real. "Confessions of a Video Vixen is not…I would have never named that book that. Somebody else named that book," Karrine claimed.
So why, after all these years is Karrine disowning the Vixen that made her infamous? She's tired ofall the attention! As a writer, Karrine feels that she herself should be relatively unknown in comparison to her work, which is a far cry from the life she lives now.
“I don’t want to be on TV. I don’t want to do any of this. This is ridiculous," Karrine confessed. "I want to be anonymous. Authors are supposed to be anonymous. We’re not supposed to be on TV, we’re not supposed to be doing any of those things."
She added, "We’re supposed to be sitting down, getting drunk, smoking opiates, writing some amazing s#!t. That’s what we all do."
The stripped-down video, shot in black and white, may be nothing more than a marketing ploy. The video promotes her website, Karrine.com, which reveals that the audacious author is getting ready to drop another book in August, titled Satisfaction.
